The cafeteria at the centre of the House of Communication in Munich is more than a culinary meeting place at any time of day: this is where interlinked communication can be seen in practice - in the daily lunchtime conversations with friendly colleagues, during meetings or client meetings or at short staff briefings while sipping an espresso or a latte macchiato.
Did you know that the first ever webcam was invented by students at Cambridge University for sheer convenience?
From 1991 to 2001, the legendary "Trojan Room Coffee Pot Camera" supplied pictures from a coffee machine in the computer laboratory to the employees who were fed up of walking to the coffeepot, only to find it empty. From November 1993 onwards, the pictures were also broadcast on the Internet.
After the coffee machine brewed its last cup in Spring 2001 due to a defect, it was purchased at auction by Spiegel Online for DM10,452.72. It was repaired by the manufacturer Krups free of charge and can be marvelled at once more via two webcams.
